Hobart New Grads Event Report

It was a small but hardy crowd that braved a chilly Hobart night to meet in one of our waterfront bars for a casual drink and a chat. We met some new people and saw some regulars again and generally had a pleasant time. One of the things we're trying is to get some non-new grads along, because we don't want to be too exclusive and also it's good to have a range of experiences and backgrounds at an event like this.
We're planning on having these regularly, every six weeks or so seems like a good time, and we've also got a few other ideas for events that you might hear more about soon.

ALIA New Grads Group - It's Adelaide's turn!

The SA ALIA New Grads Group has been dormant for a little while. So, you’re invited to help bring it alive again.

The ALIA New Graduates Group is for all new Library and Information graduates who are looking to learn more about their profession and meet other new graduates. Students and almost graduates are more than welcome.

To kick things off, please join us for a relaxed get-together over a glass of something nice. The evening will include meeting new people, as well some discussions about what you would like to see happening in Adelaide for new grads.

ALIA New Graduates Dinner, Sydney

Planning an event is one things, but waiting excitedly for the event to arrive is another.

The ALIA NGG dinner, Sydney will be held on the 8th of October. The evening will give a chance for new graduates and students and all those who are new to the Library and Information industry a chance to meet others and discuss what is most important to them within their career and profession. I think it is also a chance for those who have been around a little longer to reconnect and engage with people within the profession.

QLD ALIA Access and NAC discussion event write-up

The QLD group event on Thursday this week was a great evening.

We had a great turn out, including some new faces, to talk about what happened at ALIA Access conference and the upcoming ALIA National Advisory Congress meeting.

Some topics we covered were the value of volunteering for ALIA and how people can get involved, unconferences and the ALIA Access Library Camp, using Twitter, eportfolios, professional development and learning, the ALIA PD Scheme and lots more.

Thanks to everyone who came along and hopefully I see some of you at NAC or at the next QLD New Grads Group event.
