To participate in a structured 12 month graduate program in 2011.

The program features a diverse range of professional activities and is designed to provide you with a strong foundation in all areas of the State Library.

Note that there are two sorts of Graduate positions available Graduate Librarian and Graduate Officer.

Last chance! Information online free registration competition closes this week!

Details on how you can gain a place at ALIA Information Online Conference & Exhibition 2011 can be found on this blog post or from the ALIA New Grad eList.

Applications close THIS FRIDAY 26 November 2010. So get your fingers typing for the opportunity to engage in incredible professional development and experience the largest LIS conference in Australia.

The successful applicant will be notified mid-December 2010.

All applications will be considered on merit. A panel made up of the NGAC conference sub-committee, ALIA Director: Member Services and an ALIA Board Director will decide the winner of the ALIA Information Online registration.

The winner will be responsible for their own costs surrounding the event, only registration is covered.

QLD New Graduates End of Year Dinner

Did you know that one in seven Aussie kids live in a household where no parent is employed? Sadly, many of these disadvantaged kids go without a present on Christmas morning because their families cannot afford it.

This year, the ALIA QLD New Graduates group's End of Year Event is providing an opportunity for library and information professionals to support The Smith Family's Toy & Book Appeal and to join together for a dinner to celebrate.

Where: Three Monkeys Coffee & Tea House, West End
When: Thursday, 16th December at 6.30pm
Who: All welcome
RSVP: Saturday, 11th December

The Smith Family requires gifts to be unwrapped and there will be gift tags available to attach to your donation on the night. The age group most in need in Queensland is 9-12 year olds, both boys and girls. If you're unsure about the suitability of your gift, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Alternatively, you can bring a smile to a child's face on Christmas morning by purchasing a toy online - it's a quick and simple way to give. If you choose to donate this way, please pop me a quick email to let us know (acrystelle@gmail.com) as we'd love to see who is participating (and if any inter-state LIS professionals wish to donate this way, please also let me know!).

Please note that donations are voluntary.

This year with our help, The Smith Family aim to deliver more than 16, 000 Christmas packs to disadvantaged children around Australia. Your support will make a big difference to a child on Christmas morning.

Lightning Talks - QLD Event

QLD New Grads Event - Lightning Talks!

Have you been wondering how you can get more public speaking experience? Or maybe there is a library topic you are interested in that you think needs more exposure?

You can get public speaking experience and share your information and ideas at the next QLD New Grads event!

Our next event will be New Grad Lightning Talks. Lightning Talks are short talks (max. 5mins) presented by new grads, recent graduates, students or any other library and information professionals who have something to say. Nominate yourself to present at this event and get some great experience.

What you need to do:
1. RSVP to Bonnie Dixon (bonnie.dixon@gmail.com)
2. Think of a topic you could talk about (all topics relevant to libraries welcome).
3. Do some research and write it down
4. Create a concise and interesting presentation to give to the new grads (max. 5mins)
5. Come along and present your topic and be ready to answer questions about it.

When: November 24, 6pm at State Library of Queensland, The Edge, Window Bay 1

Topic ideas to get you started - use an assignment you have done for your qualification, use a project you are doing at work, social networking in libraries, Evidence Based Practice, Innovations in Reference Services, Gaming in public libraries, anything else at all!

SA New Grads Group Christmas

With the Christmas Pageant just days away, the Festive Season will soon be in full swing.

So, the SA New Grads Group would like to get in early and reserve a spot in everyone’s soon-to-be-packed schedules.

Join us to celebrate Christmas and the end of 2010 as only a group of Library people can (that includes librarians, students, techs, ALIA or non-ALIA – anyone).

Date: Wednesday 1^st December
Time: 6pm – 7:30pm
Venue: Saldechin www.saldechin.com, 21 King William Street, Adelaide (map). We’ll be in the lounge area.
Cost: your own drinks and food. From 5-7pm, cocktails are $10, beer $5-$6, wine $6 and their full menu also includes tea and a range of food.

WIN! ALIA Information Online Conference & Exhibition 2011 registration!

So, you thought your last chance to win a registration for ALIA Information Online Conference & Exhibiton 2011 had passed? You’re in luck!

The ALIA Board of Directors has approved the ALIA New Generation Advisory Committee’s (NGAC) request for a free registration for a new graduate or student to attend the conference, held in Sydney from 1-3 February 2011.

As part of the ALIA Board of Directors’ commitment to providing opportunities for professional development this offer is designed to enable a new graduate ALIA Associate member or student member currently undertaking an ALIA-recognised tertiary LIS course who would not otherwise receive funding from their organisation the chance to attend the ALIA Information Online Conference and Exhibition 2011.

Applicants who wish to be considered for this offer should send a completed application form by the closing date to aliangac@gmail.com. Please ensure that you address all the criteria set out in the form. Application forms are available from the email sent to the ALIA New Grad eList or from emailing enquiry@alia.org.au.
