Melbourne resume and key selection criteria event, 14 Aug

If you’re a library and information student or new graduate wanting some insight into how to put together a great application for that job that has your name on it, this event is for you! Professional librarians wanting to brush up on the process are also most welcome.
Our experienced panel will provide you with their unique perspectives on these very important documents, which could make you stand out from the crowd next time you apply for a job.

Not only will you gain insights from established professionals from a range of backgrounds: you’ll also gain a certificate of participation, points in the ALIA PD Scheme, an ALIA bag if you’re quick, and a belly full of food as the event is catered for.
When:  Tuesday 14th August 2012, 5:45pm for a 6pm start, finishing up at approximately 7:30pm
Where:  Seminar Room 1, RMIT University Swanston Library, Building 8, Level 5, 360 Swanston Street, Melbourne.
Cost: $3 for ALIA members and students. $5 for non-ALIA members.

Creating an Awesome Proposal Workshop - Brisbane, August 4th

Are you ready to take the next step in your professional development and present at a conference?

The perfect opportunity has arrived! The sixth New Librarians' Symposium - NLS6 - is coming to Brisbane February 10 - 11, 2013. With mentoring available throughout the process, NLS6 is a great space for first-timers and experienced presenters alike. The call for proposals is out and ALIA New Graduates Group QLD is here to help you.

We welcome anyone interested in submitting a proposal for NLS6 as well as anyone curious about the general process of creating proposals for conferences or other professional submissions. Our facilitators will get you up to speed on the process including how to write for a theme. Bring the ideas you are working on  but don't worry if you haven't found your awesome idea yet. We'll get you started. This event is designed as a safe space to brainstorm and refine your ideas with experienced peers.

And there will be cupcakes!

Time: 2-4 pm
Where: State Library of Queensland (venue to be confirmed)
Cost: $5 (ALIA member), $7 (non-ALIA members)
Who: Anyone - newbies, old hands and you don't have to be a "librarian." The NLS6 theme is Think Different. Be Different. That means information professionals of all stripes are encouraged.
