NLS6 Call for Mentors

The 6th New Librarians Symposium (NLS6) is calling out for mentors. Are you interested in mentoring our first time and semi-experienced presenters? To register your interest please email volunteers@newlibrarianssymposium.com with the subject heading ‘Mentor EOI’. The email should include a brief professional biography, including your particular areas of interest within the library and information sector, and your experience and expertise as a presenter.

The draft NLS6 program is here!


The New Librarians' Symposium (10-11 February 2013) is excited to announce that speaker proposals have been chosen, keynotes have been confirmed and the sessions for this awesome symposium program have been decided and scheduled. You can check out the exciting line up here (as this is a draft, please note that times may get shuffled around before we announce the final program). Below is a snapshot of the sessions and speakers.

ALIA New Graduates Group Job Skills event in Adelaide


Does the thought of writing three pages of selection criteria send you into a mad panic?

Do job interviews trigger hyperventilation and abject terror?

If you can relate to either of the above you cannot afford to miss the ALIA New Graduates Group Job Skills event.

Our experienced panel will share their insider information and advice on the job seeking journey.
From the world of academic libraries, Veronica Ghee (Senior Liaison Librarian) from Flinders University.
Discover what skills are needed to work back of house in an academic library, Tom Snook (Associate Librarian) from Flinders University.
Get the inside scoop on public libraries, Alison Burden (Team Leader, Library Customer Services) from Mitcham Library Service.

When: Thursday 18th October 2012, 5.45pm for a 6pm start, finishing at approximately 7.30pm
Where: Ira Raymond Room, Barr Smith Library, University of Adelaide
Cost: $7 for ALIA members and students. $10 for non-ALIA members. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided (Please try and bring correct change on the night)
