Join the Victorian ALIA New Grad Committee

Hi passionate library enthusiasts

The Victorian ALIA New Graduates Committee is looking for a couple of new members.

Joining the committee is a great opportunity to become involved with the library and information community, support those starting out in the profession, build your own organisational skills and regularly meet with other library enthusiasts.

What does being a committee member involve?

Involvement in the committee is a sizeable commitment, You need to be:

• Available to attend regular events
• Available for regular email contact with committee members
• Available for occasional in-person committee meetings
• A financial member of ALIA

At the moment, we host two seminars each year (usually interview skills and key selection criteria). These are quite intensive, as we have to find the speakers, organise the venue and catering, collect RSVPs, advertise the event, MC and buy speakers' gifts, collect entry fees and prepare tax receipts and certificates of participation. We usually require all hands on deck for these events. 

We also host one social event every month throughout the year, which requires promotion, RSVP collection and venue booking but is comparatively low impact for the committee -- we don't expect everyone to attend all of these events. 

A couple of times per year we participate in teleconferences with the committee members in other states. The committee members also email each other frequently and meet in person as often as is required.

NLS6 tweetup (QLD)- No Twitter required

NLS6 and ALIA Info Online are taking over Brisbane! Delegates and non-delegates are invited to a celebratory tweetup on Saturday night during NLS. You don't need to be a Twitter user or attend the conferences to come along. This is a great chance to meet new grads from around the country and see what all the fuss is about.

Who: Everyone welcome - delegates and non-delegates of NLS6 and Info Online, Twitter and non-Twitter folk

We have opened up registrations for half and full day workshops for people who are not attending NLS6. These workshops will take place on Saturday 9 February (the day before the Symposium starts). While our workshops are geared towards new graduates, the topics are of broader appeal.

Our facilitators are experts in their fields, both in Australia and abroad, and the workshops focus on some of the key issues for the information professions right now. Whether you're a new grad who can't make it to the whole Symposium or a more experienced information professional looking to kick start your professional development for 2013, we have something to offer you!

Symposium Reminder!

Right now in states all over Australia committees and teams are working hard organising an eclectic program and experience for students and graduates who will be attending the 6^thNew Librarians Symposium on the 9-11 February.

The New Librarians Symposiums is a professional development event for students and New Graduates, not just librarians but for information professionals. The theme is Think different. Be different.

NLS will provide a rich and diverse professional development and leadership program with new and experienced conference speakers, a chance to network and connect with a plethora of students, new graduates, teachers, new graduate coordinators and people like you who want to connect and learn all in a comfortable and easy going environment.          The Symposium is run as part of the ALIA New Graduates Group. The NGG is a forum for new graduates to communicate and build relationships with networks within the profession.
